Yeshua at Solomon's Colonnade (John10:22-23)

"It took place, at that time of the Feast of Dedication (or Chanukah), in Jerusalem (Ierosolymois), being winter, and Iēsous (Jesus, or Yeshua) was walking in the Temple in the porch of Solomōnos"(John10:22-23)

Just before Christmas is celebrated by the 2 billion Christians worldwide, the Feast of Dedication, or Chanukah takes place. It is an eight day festival of light, which starts at the sundown of the 25th of Kislev. This year, it fell on the 10th of December.

Chanukah was instituted by Judas Maccabeus, (1Ma 4:59) following their successful purification of the Temple of Jerusalem from the pollutions and idolatries of Antiochus Epiphanes in 164BCE. The Maccabees pulled down the profaned alter and burnt-offerings by the pagans, and built a new one, and dedicated it to the One and Only, true God.

This restoration of the worship of God in the second Temple period was a joyful celebration to every religious Israelite. According to Joseph. Antiq., John 12:11, even though it was of human institution, our Lord Jesus (Yeshua) did not scruple, but being present at it.

Without Chanukah, the Church's tradition of Christmas story, nor the first Easter, nor the Pentecost would have not happened. So there is every reason for Christians to celebrate it, as Jesus did. If interested in, read the five reason to celebrate Chanukah by FFOZ.
