Message from our Chairman
The Afternoon Tea was a wonderful way for friends, old and new, to gather together. Over
thirty people enjoyed the sumptuous refreshments amidst the beautiful and historic surroundings of the Cavalry & Guards Club.
The staff looked after us very well in our delightful, private room. We were joined by three
Japanese students who have a specific interest in FEPOWs.
As you can see from the photographs, the conversations at each table were lively and
animated, with guests sharing family and personal histories. Many links and connections were made, and I know that many of those who had met for the first time will keep in touch. We are grateful to
Colonel Chapman, who as a member of the Club, has been prepared to sponsor this event for the last few years. It provides a welcome break for those traveling into London, before walking the short
distance to the Japanese Embassy, and enjoying the hospitality of the Ambassador at the Annual Reception for Reconciliation. I hope that we will be able to continue this agreeable tradition in the
years to come.
Just along the corridor, the film crew had prepared a smaller space in which to record
interviews with a number of our guests. I have seen the provisional edit, and the short films are amazing! They reveal personal stories that are intimate and touching, provide a necessary historical
record for the future, and communicate the considerable value of Keiko's mission of reconciliation.
I'm glad to say that we have nearly raised all the money necessary to fund this professional work. We are now considering the
possibility of filming in Singapore and Japan, in October, when Keiko accompanies some of those interviewed on their Pilgrimage.
We will let you know how the situation progresses, and in particular, when and where these
tremendous testimonies can be accessed.
Thank you for your continued interest and support.
